Rossignol Telemark Interview

FHL sat down with Geoff from Rossignol Telemark to see what was going on with one of the leaders of the ski world and more importantly to find out more about what they are doing in the Freeheel world this year and what new products they are introducing to the for the 06/07 season.

It is apparent that Rossignol is firm in their commitment to Telemark and they are confident that they are creating great products for all age and interest groups in the ski community. This upcoming season they will be introducing a few new Alpine Touring skis as well as a long anticipated youth ski called the J Bird. The J bird is a youth specific Telemark ski that will cater to the growing group of young rippers. They intend to get the word out about these skis through youth programs like the TELE kids that is run by Rossignol Team Rider BJ Brewer as well as their typical dealer network. Rossignol admits that this is not the hottest market at the moment, but that it is inevitable that younger kids will become more of a driving force in the near future. Something that FHL was truly excited to hear from such a large company.

In regards to their athlete program Geoff told us that they rely on athletes such as Dylan Crossman, Sarah Clemensen, & Max Mancini to help them “know what this market needs.” The last few years have been exciting for Rossignol athletes as they have dominated the Telemark freeskiing competitions and movie screens. It is our guess that they will only continue to become a dominating force in the future.

Another exciting point that Geoff emphasized was the recent merging of Rossignol with Quicksilver, Roxy, & DC shoes and their soon to be relocation to Park City, UT. “This move to Park City will take us to the heart of Telemark in the US!” He expressed that the majority of their sales take place in the Colorado and Utah regions, which is obviously a huge factor for their choice of where to relocate and just this season the introduction of the Sick Bird and other Telemark skis was a huge success as they completely sold out of the Sick Birds and other key skis.

As we finished our little chat with Geoff we asked him what will take Telemark skiing to more people? He told us that the next step is to begin seeing the “trickle down” from freeride skiing down to the general public. “Telemark Skiing can offer a new challenge to the recreational skier.” FHL couldn’t agree more. Props to Rossignol for knowing where all of this needs to go, we will look forward to what they have in store for us in the coming years!
