My Mission

Preserve. Protect. Promote.

I work to preserve the rich history of Telemark skiing by documenting and sharing the people, stories, and equipment that shaped the freeheel turn — including maintaining an online archive and museum-style collection.

I aim to protect the Telemark turn by offering a carefully curated selection of products, services, and expertise that exist solely to support freeheel skiing.

And I promote Telemark skiing through education, media, storytelling, and community projects that welcome new skiers while respecting those who came before.

Everything I do through Freeheel Life is guided by that mission.

My Promise

Freeheel Life is 100% Telemark, all the time.

That means:

  • Every product I offer supports Telemark skiing.
  • Every dollar spent goes back into the Telemark community.
  • No compromises. No side hustles. No pretending.

I don’t dabble in Telemark when it’s convenient — it’s the reason Freeheel Life exists.

Why Freeheel Life?

I built Freeheel Life for skiers who want more than just gear.

It’s for people who:

  • care about how they ski, not just how fast
  • value technique, balance, and feel
  • respect the history of the sport
  • want to support something independent and authentic

When you support Freeheel Life, you’re not just buying a t-shirt or a hat. You’re helping fund:

  • youth season rentals
  • education and technique resources
  • preservation of Telemark history
  • media projects and community storytelling
  • a future for freeheel skiing

I want you to be a Freeheel Lifer — part of a community that believes Telemark skiing is worth protecting.

Who I Am

My name is Josh Madsen. I’m a lifelong Telemark skier, educator, filmmaker, and the former publisher and Editor-in-Chief of Telemark Skier Magazine.

I’ve spent decades immersed in Telemark skiing — on snow, behind the camera, and in print — working to document the sport’s history while helping it evolve responsibly.

Freeheel Life is the result of that work and experience, built to serve both the past and the future of Telemark skiing.

Looking Ahead

Telemark skiing has always survived because people cared enough to keep it alive.

Freeheel Life is my commitment to doing exactly that — through thoughtful products, honest education, and respect for the culture that makes the freeheel turn special.

Thanks for being here.
Thanks for supporting Telemark skiing.
