Resort Profile – The Canyons Resort

Being a Freeheel Skier in Utah, it isn’t uncommon for someone to think that you ski at Alta or Snowbird. Granted these resorts are amazing places to ride and offer tons of light Utah powder, but a resort that tends to get less attention is The Canyons Resort in Park City Utah.

The Canyons is now the largest single ski and snowboard resort in Utah, and one of the 5 largest in the nation. It boasts 3,500 skiable acres and 3,190 foot vertical rise. Impressive stats for a resort that many locals fail to frequent.

The freeheel community is a growing presence among the riders at The Canyons. Canyon Mountain sports located at the base of the mountain, offers Telemark equipment demos and the mountain also offers Tele Tuesdays, a program they have developed to promote freeheel skiing on their mountain. Local Pros Sarah Clemensen & Josh Madsen frequent the Canyon’s slopes often for filming missions and deep powder skiing. “It has everything we need when it comes to riding. It has the POW, the rocks to jump & even a great park for the days when we want to jam some rails.” Madsen said. Clemensen told FHL that, “There is so much untouched terrain with phenomenal snow when we go there days after a storm. People aren’t really aware of how much great terrain is really here at The Canyons.”

This year The Canyons has aquired several new rails and snow moving capabilities to help grow their park as well. So for the Freeheel Park skiers there are plenty of new features to use when you want to get your jib on. Check out all of this great terrain and snow in this year’s Warren Miller movie ‘Higher Ground,’ which also features the skiing of The Canyons Athletes Jamey Parks, Josh Madsen & Jeremy Nobis.
