30 Seconds to Mars - A Beautiful Lie

Remember Jordan Catallano in the 90s television show ‘My so called Life?’ Maybe you remember ‘Fight Club’ or ‘Requiem for a dream?’ Jared Leto who has been known for his killer acting in these projects has now brought another talent out of the bag…he sings and plays guitar in his band 30 seconds to Mars.

An eclectic mix of whispers to screams, soundscape to nothingness combined with a lyrical attack on what life is and how it affects us all. Great production and composition of the songs brings to life what is going in Leto’s mind. Definitely an album straight forward enough to get into but yet leaves the final interpretation for the listener. Poetic but mysterious driven by seas of sound, you might get lost in this one for awhile.

I want to categorize these guys into a genre they don’t necessarily fit into…they are young yes, but most definitely stray from the direction many of these ‘younger’ bands are going. It’s keyboard laden pop rock with a dash of 90s alternative rock and some pop punk via Hippos and Fenix TX.

The opening track is a beautiful blend of keys, female & male vocals with a driving head bobbing beat. The EP is consistently rocking and doesn’t lag at all, although it would be nice to have the prominent keyboard in more than just the first track….as it seems to get covered a bit as the record moves.

Take a dip in MHS’s pool of emotions without having to deal with the whining BS and drama. These guys have a sense of humor in how they write. A refreshing thought in a time of bad haircuts and little pools of tears everywhere. Bravo.
