Demons are a Girl’s Best Friend

Creepy lyrics of the dead and horror seep over the sound waves of ‘50s rock n’ roll and even swing type beats. It’s a punk attitude that’s trapped within the body of a zombie crooner singing to his Elvira style girlfriend. Nekromantix have been slinging their Danish Psychobilly around the world since the early ‘90s and have even landed a Grammy nomination at one point.
‘Demons…’ is a straightforward album for those that like a steady beat to dance to, great guitar licks, and a grease hairdo. Don’t miss songs like ‘Technicolor Nightmare,’ ‘Love at first bite,’ & ‘Beelzebub.’ This is the real deal for those that are fans of some upright bass slapping and fun horror lyrics.

Mad Sin
Album:
God Save the Sin

Germany’s Mad Sin generally plays fast Psychobilly that will keep your fist pumping with your stein of beer in the air. Surf Style guitar with backing shouts and of course lyrics and songs about life as a punk rocker and everything else you can imagine that’s raw, real, and fun.
The favorite is by far ‘Riot in Paradise’ a punk ode with a rock-a-billy twist is sure to get your ass moving and your foot stomping. Nothing is out of the ordinary musically with these guys, they just keep it simple and fun. Requirements for full enjoyment include: a ’57 Chevy, comb/Butch wax, & pegged blue jeans. You’re ready for the Mad Sin now.

Joseph Childress

Organic jams of folk excellence are the name of the game on this collection of songs. Childress manages to capture the moments of real music where you might think you are just there yourself. The little noises and laughs that are part of this recording remind one that production doesn’t have to be perfect to be beautiful and that music is about a lot of things.
It appears from his web page that Childress has traveled around quite a bit on the rails, hitchhiking, and everything else and his experience bleeds through into his songs. His somber voice at times brings to mind Damien Rice while some of the more picked out tunes take on the image of a young Bob Dylan. He is definitely his own artist though, and hopefully one that we’ll hear more of in the years to come.
