1. The Green: Always your ticket to a great time on and off the hill…it offers you the freedom to think about what really matters and not have to worry about your bills being paid on time every month. It’s called Money people!!!! You may be a ski bum, but get a good working gig under your belt the moment you get into town. Make sure to pick a town that has several job openings for the season and pays you enough. Bonus features are: Discount or Free Season passes included, Housing options, Free/Discounted Food items while working.
2. The Ticket: You move somewhere in the winter to drop the knee…so keep that in mind when you are scoping out your new casa for the snowy season. The season pass is the key to many happy days and face shots. Working for the resort is always a good way to score your pass, but make sure to keep your days open for shredding not working. Nothing is worse than cleaning the breakfast dishes of the people you know just got first chair.
3. The Couch: If you can’t score a Rad pad to live in, as we covered in June’s Bum Trickery, you may have to surf the wave all winter long. That is…couch surf. Be sure to snag your buddies couch or as least ask the cute girl at the bar if you can trade washing her dishes for a comfy spot on her new leather love seat.
4. The Grub: Full bellies are in season everyone. First of all refer back to #1…if you can get a job that lets you eat one meal per shift, you are stylin’. Otherwise your gonna have to seek out alternative methods. Find the local market with cheap prices or a food co-op that you can become a member of. Often times traveling to a larger town is the key to saving bank on the grocery bill. Don’t forget to clip coupons too, a perfect endeavor for a hung-over Sunday morning.
5. The Cougars: If you are a lady ski bum, you don’t need to worry about some creepy old dude buying you drinks at the bar; your tab is always covered. However for you young bucks out there, Cougars can be predators, but also your ticket to drinks and maybe a nice dinner date après ski. Be on the lookout! Grrr…………
