Resort Profile: Perisher Blue
Contributed by freeheellife.com

There is really no reason that winter should ever end for those that truly have the desire to ski year round. It is merely a matter of being in the right place when the snow falls. When the North American, European, and other areas begin to see the end of winter there are several options down south that won’t let you down and will give you the opportunity to keep your shred on from June until October.

Perisher Blue is located between the cities of Canberra and Melbourne, Australia in New South Wales. From Sydney it is a mere 5.5 – 6 hour drive or 7 hours from Melbourne to the city of Jindabyne, which is located just 30 minutes from the mountain. Make sure to bring proper fitting chains for your car or a 4WD vehicle as conditions in the national park area can be messy due to snow conditions. Parking at the resort is free. They also offer a full service bus system that provides transportation within the village and mountain areas so you can get around from place to place.

The events go off at Perisher every year and it is definitely the hip place to be. This season you can check out events like the Oakley Urban Rail Jam, PSP park and pipe Masters, multiple Telemark festivals as well as MTV coming down to do their thing with the MTV Snow Cave. Their Calendar is already packed with lots of good times to be had, so make sure to sit down and plan out a ski vacation for this winter.

As far as the skiing goes, Perisher boasts 50 lifts that access 7 mountain peaks and over 3,000 skiable acres. They have around a 120 day season yearly which definitely gives one time to go skiing while down there, as well as, a superpipe and 4 terrain parks which add great variety to an already great mountain for the days that you just want to cruise around and session some rails or jumps with your friends.

Other facts to remember about Perisher Blue are that the percentage of fine weather days is 70% chance, they have night skiing Tuesday and Saturday evenings and they also have over 100 kms of marked Nordic Skiing trails.

Vital Facts:
  • 1165 vertical feet
  • 4 Terrain Parks / Superpipe
  • High speed 8 chair
  • 6 quads
  • Great Après Ski adventures in the village
